Located at a distance of 16 km from Hyderabad of Bahadupur region, Nehru Zoological Park is credited with being the largest zoo in India. The park was named in honor of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Nehru Zoological Park is the most excellent place to explore the rich wildlife in its natural habitat. Sprawled over an area of approximately 300 acres, the zoo has a wide collection of animals, birds and reptiles.
Some amongst the major animal’s treasure of the zoo are such as Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lions, Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Black Panther, Giraffes and Black Bears. In case you are in quest of adventure and buzz, then you can take jeep safari of the Lion Park, a place with exclusive charm throughout the continent. Nehru Zoological Park is a habitat of both, African and Indian Lions. You can also be countered with the Big Cats during your visit if you are lucky enough.
Besides the animals, you can also see some reptiles, including Giant/Star Tortoises, Water Turtles, Chameleons, Hooded Indian Cobra, Monitor Lizards, Russell's viper, Giant Rock-Python, Tree Snakes, Estuarine Crocodiles, etc. Some herbivores can also be seen at Nehru Zoological Park such as-Elephants, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Zebras, Chousingha, American Bison, Chinkara, Antelopes, Black Buck, Deer, Sambar, Brow Antler Deer, etc.
Another attraction at the park is Natural History Museum, which exhibits old artifacts and dummies of wiped out animals. In the edge of this park, there is a Nocturnal Birds Park, which houses uncommon and exotic species of nocturnal birds and animals including owls and lemurs. Apart fro this, there is another museum that showcases pre-historic living thing, which were present on the earth before the appearance of human race. Computerized dummies of dinosaurs and other pre-historic creatures can also be seen here, which look quite real.
