The Hussain Sagar Lake is situated in the heart of the city at the edge of twin cities of Hyderabad and Secundrabad. This 24 kilometers long artificial lake was built in 1562 A.D. by Hussain Shah Wali during the time in power of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. Boating and water sports are a normal activity in the lake. One of the world's tallest monumental statues of Buddha stands on the 'Rock of Gibraltar', right in the middle of the lake. It is 17.5 meters high and weighs 350 tones. Apart from these, it also offers new and better facilities like speed boats, motor boats, 48 seater launch etc. On-board dinners and private parties are also arranged. An interesting and another attraction named ‘Tank Bund’ is there where statues of 33 eminent personalities are lined up on the eastern side of the lake.
As it provides relief in the heat of summers, so the Hussain Sagar Lake is the most sought after locations among all age groups in Hyderabad.
